GREY MUZZLE GRANT GIVES MESA SENIOR DOGS SOME NEEDED SUPPORT

[Mesa, Arizona] –There’s good news for older dogs this summer as The Grey Muzzle Organization announces the recipients of its annual grants, and dogs in Mesa are among the winners.

Aster Aging, a leading nonprofit serving the East Valley of Arizona, is one of 100 groups chosen from nearly 400 applicants to receive a grant to help local senior dogs and the people who love them. The winning groups are sharing more than $1 million in grants to help save and improve the lives of at-risk older dogs in their communities.

“This grant will help our pet program support 40 additional senior dogs with food, treats and toys. We know the vital importance of pets for the wellbeing of the low-income seniors we serve,” said Deborah Schaus, Chief Executive Officer of Aster Aging. “We hope to encourage our clients’ pet ownership and ease the worry of obtaining pet supplies. No one is more grateful or loving than an older dog, and we’re looking forward to helping senior dogs remain in their loving homes.”

Over the past 16 years, the national nonprofit Grey Muzzle Organization has provided more than $5.7 million in grants to support its vision of “a world where every senior dog thrives, and no old dog dies alone and afraid.”

“Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we’re delighted to help deserving organizations like Aster make a positive difference in the lives of dogs and people in their communities,” Grey Muzzle’s Executive Director Lisa Lunghofer said. “Many senior dogs in Mesa are enjoying their golden years in loving homes thanks to Aster Aging.”

For over 45 years, Aster Aging has empowered older adults and their families in the East Valley to remain independent and engaged in their communities through core programs including Meals on Wheels, Outreach & Social Services, Senior Centers, and In-Home Supports.

A national nonprofit, The Grey Muzzle Organization, improves the lives of at-risk senior dogs by providing funding and resources to animal shelters, rescue organizations, sanctuaries, and other nonprofit groups nationwide. For details, please visit www.greymuzzle.org
