Over 700 seniors received gifts this holiday season through the generous support of our community!
The holidays were brighter this year for older adult participants in all of Aster’s programs – including Meals on Wheels, Neighbors, Home Care, Social Services, and Senior Centers. Being remembered by caring community members was even more important for our most isolated participants, as this may have been the only gift they received.
Aster promotes its annual Holiday Helper campaign and others suggestions for gift collection projects, such as nightlights, puzzle books, slippers, throws, and snacks.
“The caring support shown to our seniors this year was beyond wonderful!”, Deborah Schaus, Aster CEO, acknowledged. “We are truly grateful for the many generous and thoughtful gifts collected by local businesses, faith communities, clubs, and community members.”
Long-time supporters, including Home Instead, SRP, Sundt, and St. Timothy’s, were joined by new supporters who held very successful gift drives with their members and employees. This year, groups like PetSmart Charities extended their gifts to include the important furry friends of our senior program participants.
The City of Mesa set up a gift tree for employee participation. The Mesa Chamber of Commerce asked members to bring gifts to their Taste of Mesa event. Volunteers from the Mesa Chamber office and Santander were joined by members of the Mesa Rotary Club and Mesa Sunrise Rotary to volunteer in serving holiday lunches, as well as generously participating in the gift drive.
Our seniors also enjoyed being remembered by our community’s children, ranging from cards made by preschoolers to beautiful placemats created by high school students.
